The notorious Nozome dyers met on Saturday 3 OCT at the studio of Laura Beehler in Converse TX. Laura & her tribe did a heroic job of preparing for the workshop.Although 50 persons had signed up for the workshop, only 35 actually participated. The Fiber Artists of San Antonio will stage a communal dyeing workshop at the studio of Laura Beehler in Converse, TX.
Fifty fiber artists will join together in the dyeing of 50 yards of cloth!! This epic act of community building is inspired by the work of Hiroshi Saito, a living National Treasure of Japan. Hiroshi Saito is famous for two things: his art, and his ability to orchestrate acts of community-building around a long sheet of white cloth. Known as “Nozome,” these fantastic events are staged outside with groups of up to 100 people. Using brushes and natural dyes, Hiroshi supervises the collective colouring of 20-meter lengths of cloth.
