Call for Entry – NATIONAL FIBER DIRECTIONS EXHIBITION 2015

Opening Reception: Friday, March 27, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Complimentary Light Hors d’oeuvres and Cash Bar. This is a national exhibition showcasing the art of fiber. This year’s exhibition juror is Barbara Shapiro.

Involved in textiles from an early age, San Francisco native Barbara Shapiro began weaving in 1975 in New York City. She combines a rich knowledge of historical and ethnic textiles with broad technical experience in weaving, dyeing and basketry. After being involved in the San Francisco Art to Wear movement in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Barbara shifted her focus to non-functional textile art, creating beautiful wall hangings and sculptural basktes. Indigo dyeing is her signature and her passion. She teaches frequent workshops and has taught classes through the Art Department at San Francisco State University. A past Board Member of the Textile Society of America, she also serves as an advisor to the Textile Arts Council of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and was a docent at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art. Barbara’s textile art has been widly exhibited and published. She also writes articles for many textile publications.
