Wimberley Valley Saori is a destination for those looking to become part of a creative community, as well as a showcase for Saori-inspired hand-woven garments and accessories designed and created by owner Kathy Utts.
Three longtime FASA members placed in an artistic competition which was sponsored by LeadingAge Texas. This group is an umbrella organization over not-for-profit aging services providers across Texas and holds an annual competition “ArtsInspire” in various artistic endeavors.

The awards ceremony was held in Austin in August 2019. . Our FASA organization was well represented with three of our members who reside in the San Antonio area placing in the competition–Sandra Edsall, representing the Army Residential Community, Betty Granheim from Blue Skies, and Kathleen Bryan from EdenHill Communities in New Braunfels.
In addition to the categories mentioned, this competition also had categories in the written word, photography, and various painting categories. Over all, there were 200+ submissions.
2019 ArtsInspire™ Reception & Awards Ceremony Album
The FASA Cobweb Sale is your opportunity to clear out your art space or collect. Among the available “treasures” you will find: patterns, fabric, buttons, beads, art or craft books, canvas, screens, finished fiber-related crafts of every kind, yarn, wearable art, artist-made jewelry and UFO’s.
The sale is October 14, 2019 at the San Antonio Garden Center. Artists (Vendors) may come in to set up at 8:30. Please, no selling vendor to vendor until 9:30, when members and guests will be able to come to the area.
Make out your check for $10.00 (per table) to FASA and mail on or before 1 October 2019 or give it to:

The artist (vendor) is responsible for pricing items. Suggestions to vendors and potential customers: bring small bills and change. Vendors have the option of taking cash and/or check. Meeting called to order by President Deb Harris at 1002.
Education Chair Sherry Christensen introduced a new member, Chrystina Powers, who presented “Show and Tell.” Christina’s focus is on quilting and art-to-wear.
Sherry asked for a volunteer to host the Nov/DEC studio tour.
Minutes of the 10 June meeting were posted on the FASA website. Motion to approve minutes was made by Mary Ann Johnson and seconded by Sunnee Rakowitz. Motion carried.
Officer and Committee Reports
1st V-P (Programs) Phyllis Jordan was introduced as the new 1st V-P. She is leaving her former position as a parliamentarian. Today’s post-prandial “Make and Take” will be presented by Deb Harris and Cynthia Vaughn.
2nd V-P (Annual Show) Connie Akers– Prospectus of the show was distributed to the membership. Connie noted that entries may be submitted on-line from 1 July- 23 August 2019. Sue Benner will serve as the juror.
Pat Schulz introduced the non-juried exhibit sponsored by SPUTNIK.
All FASA members may enter & are encouraged to turn in an 8 x 10” fiber piece on either 8 or 9 September. The title of this exhibit is “Pieces.” Work is to be submitted in landscape orientation with 1/2” square area in the upper left and right corners left free of decoration so that hanging devices may be attached. Nothing should protrude on any of the 4 sides.
The “Moon” Exhibit at Forest Hills Library is over. Members are reminded to visit the Stitchery Exhibit at the UTSA Campus.
3rd V-P (Fundraising) J’cil Horn – The fundraiser will take place in 2020 and have a tea party format.
4th V-P (Scholarships) Vacant. It was proposed by the Board that a total of $6,000 be awarded for scholarships and donations. The Fashion Management Dept. at the University of the Incarnate Word, the Fibers Dept. at the Southwest School of Art, and Say Si (studio classes) are to receive $2000 each. A motion to approve the monetary wards was made by Chrystina Power and seconded by Connie Akers. Under discussion, B.K. Peterson nominated St Phillip to receive a scholarship. Although there were several objections from the floor during the discussion, it was pointed out that the proposed awards were IAW FASA bylaws.
Motion carried: 27 for; 4 opposed.

Membership- Peggy Baxter announced that FASA now has 81 paid members. ( guests attended today. She awarded door prizes to Mary Ann Johnson, Peg Boren, Holly Hanssen, Chrystina Power, Rachel Edwards, Susan Lampert, Sue Corbett, and Connie Akers

Lyn Belisle – for the SAALM- There will be a pop-up Fiber Artists Show by FASA artists from 1100-1600 on 21-22 SEP 2019. Lyn distributed the prospectus. For further info, contact Lyn Belisle or Jean Dahlgren.
Lyn also announced that Jane Dunnewold had been selected as SAALM artist of the year. Her exhibit opens Sunday, Sep. 8.
The SA Bead Soc. will stage a “Blingfest” September 28-29. There will be 40 vendors. For further info: https://www.sabeads.org/
Linda and Mary Ruth Flores announced that the GSAQG Quilt Show would take place 20-21 September.
The Mary McCauley workshop will take place at Lions Field.
Jean Dahlgren was invited to submit her art garments to the Ft Collins Artwear Biennial in October.
The By-Laws Ad Hoc Committee is still in session.
