Class limit: 20

Images of Mary Frances artwork, encaustic texturesWelcome to encaustics, where the medium is provided by bees and traces back to ancient Egypt! This is THE class for creatives and texture lovers of all kinds. The translucent nature of heated wax flows easily and allows us to build intricate layers of color and texture. When you paint with warm beeswax, the pigmented wax acts as both paint and glue, creating the ideal medium for incorporating multi-media elements.

In this class you will use encaustic painting to create your own exciting 2D or 3D (on a panel or free standing) project. This workshop will focus on creative explorations with an emphasis on fibers and textiles infused to wax. Mary Frances will do several small demos, as well as assist while you create your own unique artwork!

While all materials will be provided, an optional list a goodies you may wish to bring from home to personalize your experience will be sent to you at register.

Handouts will be provided and setup and safety of using encaustics will be covered. When you leave, you will have more than a great work of art to show your friends-you will have a new process and special techniques for expanding your own creative practice.

This class is for you if:

  • You are stuck in your current process and you need a fresh infusion of creative energy.
  • You are looking for a new way to connect exotic fibers and textures.
  • You are curious about encaustics and would like to see how it might add to your own practice.
  • You love to experiment!

Space is limited. Pre-registration is highly encouraged.
