Following up on the “Variations on a Snippet Roll” presentation Vicki Siptak made on behalf of SPUTNIK, we have concurrence from Say Si to install our artwork adjacent to the FASA annual show area. We are calling our art “Storylines.”
Concept is to produce a vertically dominant piece of art which tells any story you want to tell. Story-lines will be hung as a “forest” through which people will walk.
Any FASA/SPUTNIK member can submit a storyline.
Limit of 3 for any one artist.
This is NOT a juried exhibition.
A submission form (coming out soon) with a description of the meaning and construction of your story line must be submitted by Monday 10 October to Carmen Goyette.
In exchange for your submission form, you will receive a dowel (4 or 6 inches wide, let us know which you need) with a screw eye, from which your storyline will hang. You will need to attach your art to the dowel without encumbering the screw eye.
This submission form is your pledge to produce a prepared storyline (including attached dowel with exposed screw eye) for the installation and deliver it to Jean’s house sometime between 7-14 November, 2016.
Must be between 4 and 6 inches wide.
Must be between 6 and 10 ft long.
Storylines must be structurally sound enough to hang without additive support.
Storylines must not be inherently dangerous (no razors along the edges, explosives, etc).
Storylines can be made of any textile (using the FASA definite of textile found on our website), for example: cloth, thread, yarn, crochet, mixed media, print, quilted textiles, dyed textiles, beaded textiles, wire, metal, plastic, crime scene tape.
Storylines can be 2 or 3D but must be structurally sound.
Storylines can be one or two sided. Remember, folks will be surrounded by and walking through your forest of stories.
If you submit something that might freak out school aged children or make them ask their parents awkward questions, let us know so we can post a warning.
Say Si kids will be offered the opportunity to submit their storylines as well.
This is an exciting opportunity to have fun, tell your story, and have your art displayed to an appreciative audience. If you’ve never shown your art before, or you show routinely, you should jump at this opportunity and have fun!
